Directions: Exit Interstate 5 at Del Mar Heights Road. Turn west and proceed about .5 miles to Durango Drive on the right. Continue to the north end of Durango, where curbside parking is available.
Crest Canyon, a City of San Diego open space park, fills a bowl shaped valley that slopes down from Del Mar Heights Road on the south to San Dieguito Lagoon on the north.
From Durongo Drive take the steep, eroded path on the left (the only rough section of the hike) that descends via sandstone ledges toward the canyon floor, about 200 feet away.
Pick up the wide path heading north and gradually downhill. After less then 1 mile, you reach Racetrack View Drive, across from the southern arm of San Dieguito Lagoon. This is also a possible starting point of the hike.
