Download GPX: Sill Hill Waterfall |
Directions: Follow highway 79 9.4 miles south from Julian or 13.4 miles north from Interstate 8 at Descanso to reach the trailhead, on the inside of a sharp bend in the road. This trailhead is located at mile 10.7 according to the highway 79 mile markers.
This hidden 30-foot waterfall lies within Cleveland National Forest, just outside the west boundary of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.
The informal path down to it is a bitch sketch, the last few hundred yards involve a bit of rock-hopping and bush whacking.

This picture is incorrectly placed. The picture is of Cedar Creek Falls, not of Sill Hill Waterfall.

Hey John,
Thanks for the heads up, I will have to do a better job looking for a Sill Hills photo, or maybe it’s time to get out there and snap one for myself, either way, thanks again.

OK I provided the GPS data for this hike. Obviously my gps lost sat lock and the elevation profile is a little off at the beginning. I can’t remember why we deviated from the trail for a bit at the one point in the beginning. The place where you exit thh main trail down to Sill Hill is VERY easy to miss, so this would be one of the more valuable gpx files to bring with you if you have a gps. Other than that you should be good to go.
Happy Hiking,

My brother and I hiked down to the falls and they were spectacular. The turn off of the main fire road is markered with a small sign then it is following rock piles put up by past hikers down to the falls. Not an easy hike… but well worth it.
