We originally set out to do a bunch of hiking and some exploring in the caves. As it turns out, it is one big loop on a mud road out there with caves at sporadic points along the way. Our revised plan was to park, drop the majority of the gear and head into the caves with a day pack on, and that’s what we did.
The caves are really amazing, and a lot deeper then I expected them to be. We set out at the big mud cave, and spend 5 or 6 hours crawling around inside it before coming out on top of the caves on the ridge of the hills.
This was a weekend trip, and we were only able to cover so much of the area. There is so much more to see, I cant wait to go back.
Just make sure you bring a headlamp and extra batteries!

Those pics are pretty cool. Did you make it to Rosa Peak?

You know we didn’t. The caves are up so much of our time. We have plans to go back out because just a weekend is not long enough to really enjoy that area!
Perhaps you would be interested in joining the two of us ?

Hey do you have any idea where I could find some maps of the caves. My bro is going to take me out but not until I find a map of them first. If you could help me out, that would be awesome!

Hey Sean
Maps of the inside of the caves would be pretty difficult to come by I think. I was unable to get my GPS mapper to work inside the caves (for obvious reasons, but I had hoped the accelerometer would be enough).
You can try here http://www.hiddensandiego.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page but I think they only have maps of where the different caves are, not the web that they are once you get inside.
